Scanner not working - Sigurd - 26th November 2016

Hi,
I just upgraded my printer/scanner from Canon MG2550 to Canon MG5750. With the MG2550 every time xsane recognized the scanner without any problem. The printer driver for the MG5750 works fine. But xsane does not recognize the scanner even not as root. The display of the MG5750 shows automated scan for PC via USB. I guess this is the right setting. So what can I do to get the scanner running?
Kind regards,
Sigurd

Have you seen/tried that http://tutorialforlinux.com/2015/12/08/how-to-install-canon-pixma-mg5740-mg5750-series-printers-drivers-on-ubuntu-15-10-wily-32-64bit-linux-and-quickstart-scanning-easy-guide/ ?
There is a lso a tutorial for the scanner driver.

Looks like the MG5750 is not reported to work with the sane-pixma backend.

You might want to consider downloading the ScanGear MP software from canons web site.

RE: Scanner not working - Sigurd - 27th November 2016

Hi AJSlye,
you're right MG 5600 series and MG 6100 series are supported but not MG 5700 series. Is there still someone working on it?
I downloaded and installed the debian-package of Scangear. But there is no start button in the start menu. I only can start Scangearmp2 from console. It is very, very simple. And it creates files with root as owner and only owner can read and write the file. Is there a way to change this that at least everybody can read and write it and/or the owner will be me? And how can I create a start button in the start menu for it?
Kind regards,
Sigurd

To create a start-button is very simple. And after a restart of the OS Scangear creates files with the owner me. So I can read and write them.
Now at least I can scan again even if it is very simple. But will there be a new version of SANE that will recognize my device Canon Pixma MG 5750?
Regards,
Sigurd

Hi,
I just found my scanner device here: SANE Development (git) Version under Canon with this listing:

PIXMA MG5700 Series USB WiFi 0x04a9/0x178e Complete All resolutions supported (up to 1200 DPI). pixma
(0.17.34) sane-pixma

Where can I get this driver and how can I install it?
Kind regards,
Sigurd

There is a ppa available for ubuntu that has a newer 1.0.26 git version ob libsane. However you can only either use libsane or the official drivers from canon.
So first remove the official drivers from canon and then try adding that ppa and updating the sane packages.

Hi leszek,
Excellent! After a restart the Update Manager asked for installing two new sane files. And I did so. Now the frontend XSANE recognizes my device Canon Pixma MG 5750 and I can scan using Sane again. Great, problem solved, thank you very much.
Kind regards,
Sigurd
