[Solved] - How to connect via remote desktop - rocky7x - 12th December 2016

Hi,

I was wondering which solution or application to use to connect to Maui via remote desktop (VNC or RDP or anything else)? I was not able to find remote desktop configuration in System Settings nor a VNC server running. I googled that standard Ubuntu runs vino server, but that's not installed in Maui...

By default we don't ship any remote desktop server software (just a client, called krdc).
If you want to install remote desktop sharing software I suggest installing krfb which seems to have the best integration in Plasma.

Hi,

I've tried kfrb, but the problem is that when I connect to it via remote VNC client, it doesn't show the menus, popups etc. - for example, when I click on the bottom left "m" icon to show the menu, on the host desktop it appears, but the menu doesn't appear in the remote client. Also for example when hitting Alt+F2 Krunner appears in the host, but does not appear in the remote desktop. The same is with all plasma popups, so basically it is unusable. I've finally found that Teamviewer does work correctly, so using it for the moment.

Ah, good, you found TeamViewer -- i was going to tell you about it (i've used it for years, professionally & privately, & it's been very good]. Several months ago i also learnt of AnyDesk, & i'm dying to try it out, but am refusing to download it until they secure their site with https [currently it's only http, & they also provide no hashsums &/or GPG signatures, so i couldn't trust any downloads. I've been in correspondence with them for months, & they keep promising that their new https site is "just a few weeks away"].
