can't install Tor Browser - johm5 - 10th March 2017

Am trying to install Tor Browser using Tor Browser Launcher selecting 'Install Tor Browser'.

Downloads OK but rejects final installation with message "SIGNATURE VERIFICATION FAILED!"

Have tried several times yesterday and today all with same result.

tried via tor browser installer, having obtained via synaptic.

Tried similar on Debian, couldn't find it but found a tor add-on for firefox. May be as good but not sure, meanwhile Maui is Tor-less!

Me too tried via Synaptic and i tried to import key like this but not worked for me:

https://www.torproject.org/docs/verifying-signatures.html.en

After i uninstall it and downloaded it from their site and followed install instructions:

https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en

Restarted it and working fine.

Will try that later today and report on result. Thanks. Can't do it now (being bone idle I've only got email facilities on Windoz

downloaded tor-browser-linux64-6.5.1_en-US.tar.xz

and typed :tar -xvJf tor-browser-linux64-6.5.1_en-US.tar.xz

result was 'bzip2: (stdin) is not a bzip2 file'

I'm giving up on it. If necessary, I'll use tails on a usb stick.

Thanks for your help anyway, much appreciated.

Tried. Downloaded tar -xvJf tor-browser-linux32-6.5.1_LANG.tar.xz and copied the line:
tar -xvJf tor-browser-linux64-6.5.1_
LANG.tar.xz

result? 'bzip2: (stdin) is not a bzip2 file'

I'll pack it in now and just use tails on a usb stick instead.

Thanks for your help anyway

You can extract this also with ark if you don't want to use the command line.

RE: can't install Tor Browser - johm5 - 18th March 2017

I've extracted using Ark but at present I have another problem with Maui.
My machine has multi-boot for Debian and Maui. Debian was my main linux. Originally I used Fedora (KDE) but when they released the workstation, cloud and server versions, I had problems upgrading so switched to Debian. For some reason the Debian had problems using Wine, it was not properly installed because I'd sort of upgraded Fedora to Debian because my home was a seperate partition.

I always seem to take the awkward route in everything!

When I installed Maui, the Wine worked fine. (I run genealogical program FTM2006, originaly on Windows but continued in Linux, hence need for wine)

Anyway, cutting to the chase, I added Chakra to the choice. All worked fine at first but yesterday and today I found that if I booted Maui, it worked fine up to the logon but after that I ended up with a blank screen except for the cursor. Nothing seem to happen after that!

So I've now apparently lost Maui. Probably I'll need to re-install it from scratch.

This makes my problem with Tor redundant. If I ever get Maui fixed I'll try again with Tor and report here but don't hold your breath. Knowing me I'll probably end up dumping Maui.

end of moaning, I'll see what happens next. Bye and thanks for all your help.
