Headphone jack is a 3.5mm one or some external usb one?
For the internel 3.5mm jack some sound cards provide a switch to activate automatic changing of audio output.
The easiest way to find out if you can activate this is to open up a terminal and typing in alsamixer -c0. Under the All tab (see the top + instructions in the application itself on how to switch between the tabs using the f-keys) you can scroll through all mixer entries there using the left and right arrow keys. There should be some option related to the what you want to active. To activate or deactivate press m on that option.

I have a 3.5 . In Maui 17.03 operates automatically switching , but 17.06 no is not working.
