I used to work with "Kde-config-grub2" in KDE4.
It had very useful options in order to control fully the boot in a multiboot system.
Is there any hope to see something similar in the future ?

Is it a EFI install ?
If not you could use grub-customizer.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer

Have never tried "efibootmgr" but maybe you would like to do some googling on it...(UEFI)
I have 5 o/s on my computer and use a legacy boot for all obviously. the only hang up is I have to run grub-customizer after a new kernel install..
