RE: Maui 2.0 Installer - leszek - 24th November 2016

I think it is. You need to refresh the packagelist (e.g. apt-get update) to sucessfully get those packages aswell. So execute that on live session before trying to install.
Also make sure that all ubiquity packages marked for installation are from our repo.

As for the Maui 2 ISO we ship a working installer there. This ubiquity one is kept for compatibility reasons for Maui 1 in our repos. This means it's the exact version including the slideshow that still shows Maui 1 in its slides.
So the default way for most our users is simply using calamares and not fiddle with installing ubiquity.
However our advanced users like you who want special features (th e ecryptfs /home) should be able to install the old installer if they wish so.

RE: Maui 2.0 Installer - kdemeoz - 25th November 2016

Well, you're not going to like this, but Maui2 simply cannot be installed [by this little black duck, anyway] using the Ubiquity [2.21.63.1+p16.04+git20160923.1840] installer.

I have now spent cumulatively several days, wasted, on this, & it's always the same failed status at the end of the installer's slideshow. The only positive news, since my original post in this thread, is that your advice that i had to run sudo apt-get update prior to installing the latest Ubiquity version, happily did eliminate the subsequent Ubiquity installation errors (ie, associated with the installation of Ubiquity, not of Maui2 itself]. Once i did install the right Ubiquity version, each of the following Maui2 installation attempts failed [same error msg as i earlier posted]:

1. "Download updates while installing Maui", "Install third-party s/w for graphics & WiFi... media" ticked; Manual Partitioning created, Bootloader in MBR [/sda], /home encrypted.

2. "Download updates while installing Maui", "Install third-party s/w for graphics & WiFi... media" ticked; Manual Partitioning created, Bootloader in / [/sda1], /home encrypted.

3. "Download updates while installing Maui", "Install third-party s/w for graphics & WiFi... media" ticked; Manual Partitioning created, Bootloader in MBR [/sda], /home unencrypted.

4. "Download updates while installing Maui", "Install third-party s/w for graphics & WiFi... media" unticked; Manual Partitioning created, Bootloader in MBR [/sda], /home unencrypted.

I've tested in VirtualBox, & i've tested in VMWare Workstation Player. All failed.

BTW, you've told me that the Ubiquity version i've been using in Maui2 is identical to that in Maui1, but today, after the umpteenth Maui2 installation failure, i decided to recycle my new VB VM intended for Maui2, by instead doing a fresh install with Ubiquity of Maui1 [using my original ISO], with encrypted /home... & it was successful [just like my original "real" Maui1 installation in my Tower, those couple of months back]. However, i noticed that every screen of the installer was different in Maui1 compared to the past several days' attempts of Maui2, despite them being the same Ubiquity version in Synaptic, & both using the dedicated Maui not Netrunner slideshow.

So somehow, way beyond my understanding, the Maui2 ISO is not "playing nice" with Ubiquity, whereas Maui1 ISO does, given that all my multiple tests demonstrate that [the same version of] Ubiquity causes a failed install of Maui2 but a successful install of Maui1.

PS - My final experiment was to re-recycle that same VB VM again, back to Maui2, but this time using the ISO's Calameres installer ... & i confirm this was successful [but as previously stated, this is of no practical benefit to me, as i wish to have /home encrypted]. It appears that my plan to put Maui2 onto my Lappy, to bring it in line with my Tower, will have to be put on hold... maybe til Maui3 comes along with Calamares able to do encryption?

RE: Maui 2.0 Installer - leszek - 25th November 2016

Sorry for the inconvenience.

This tells me that you still don't have the complete ubiquity version we ship in maui 1 as we removed those from our version of the installer.
Quote:1. "Download updates while installing Maui", "Install third-party s/w for graphics & WiFi... media" ticked;

Can you please try installing our ubiquity version in live session by executing
Code:
sudo apt-get install ubiquity=2.21.63.1+p16.04+git20160923.1840 ubiquity-slideshow-maui ubiquity-frontend-kde=2.21.63.1+p16.04+git20160923.1840 ubiquity-ubuntu-artwork=2.21.63.1+p16.04+git20160923.1840

Then please try again. You should not get the third party checkbox page at all with this version of the installer.
And hopefully this will finally work for you Smile

Here's what happened [it began well, correctly NOT now asking me about those drivers & updates], but eventually:

Getting weary...

PS -- this latest VM attempt was again with separate partitions for /, /opt, swap & /home; with bootloader installed to /sda, & with /home encrypted.

RE: Maui 2.0 Installer - leszek - 26th November 2016

OK I fear then it isn't possible to use ubiquity to install here.
The only culprit here would be the ubiquity-casper package that includes some scripts for the live environment to come up.
Adding them is not trivial. You don't only need to install the package but also need to update-initramfs with the update-initramfs.distrib -u which generates a new initrd in /boot that needs to be copied over the one on the live sticks casper/initrd.lz.
Though this means also the live stick needs to be formatted as fat32 to write files to it which usually isn't the case when using dd to write the image to USB.

So in general we could try this aswell and I am pretty confident it will work then. Though it might be tough for you.

RE: Maui 2.0 Installer - kdemeoz - 26th November 2016

Oh dear, goodness me. Thank you but no, i think i would not be clever enough to do that, & to be honest i don't feel it's worth my ongoing hassle. Until Maui3 comes out [which i suppose is still not certain to solve this], i think i need to give up now on Maui2 ISO installations, & revert to Maui1 ISO installs then progressively upgrade to Maui2 via the repos & Update Manager. That's an inelegant way to achieve my goal, but at least we know that method does work. Thank you for trying to help me.

RE: Maui 2.0 Installer - kdemeoz - 27th November 2016

Ooh, starbuck just said "We just released an updated ISO 2.1" http://forums.mauilinux.org/showthread.php?tid=24128&pid=40668#pid40668

Is there anything good for me in that, re this current thread?

RE: Maui 2.0 Installer issues - leszek - 27th November 2016

No update on the ubiquity thing I am afraid.
