tasksel - XC-DH_Oldie - 7th January 2017
Hello all,
first, i have two Maui OS installed, one for testing, one is my preferred using system.
A few minutes ago i have installed "tasksel" on my testing system because i wanted to install "LAMP" with "tasksel".

# sudo apt-get install taskselThen i startet "tasksel" at the terminal.

# sudo taskselNow tasksel started with it's small text based gui.
I deselected the previous marked and selected "LAMP" and pressed OK.
Then the the message comes, "install package".
But after a few minutes i was wondering what "tasksel" doing, it deinstalling the system.
I stopped this process by closing the terminal, then i did a reboot.
Now it seems my testing "Maui" is destroyed 'cause it wouldn't boot into system altough the entry of my testing "Maui" is shown in "GRUB2"
What have i done ?
Did i make a mistake using the small text based gui instead of using the command in terminal.

# sudo tasksel install lamp-serverNow my question is, what was happend using "taskel" and could i repair the testing system or should i make a backup of my doc's pic´s etc., cleaning up the partition with the testing system and make a new install of "Maui" ?

I guess the problem is caused by you deselecting stuff in tasksel.
The easiest solution is to reinstall. Just by checking stuff in tasksel again won't bring back the maui specific packages.

There's another question;
My testing system worked fine with all the installed "stuff".
Can i create, for the next time if system crushes, a file that brings me back to the settings i made in "Maui" for a new installation inclusive all programs, especially for "Maui" ?
I think i have to create a personal "Maui" image.
Maybe someone can post a tutorial how to make this.
Sorry for my "noobie" LINUX.

If you use btrfs as filesystem you would be able to create snapshots of your system that you can always use to boot into a working system.

If you want to backup your whole system, such as when you have it the way your happy with, you could try Clonezilla. There should be numerous guides on how to on internet.
http://clonezilla.org/
Your /var/log/apt/history.log should tell you what was uninstalled.
Did you try recovery mode?
