[Solved] - LAPTOP WiFi Good, but NO Ethernet. - kdemeoz - 2nd March 2017 Hi Whilst i continue to struggle trying to fix my recalcitrant Tower [ https://forums.mauilinux.org/showthread.php?tid=24237&pid=41897#pid41897 ], i thought i'd look into a networking fault on my LAPPY. Lappy has a good reliable fully-functional WiFi network service. In contrast, it has NO Ethernet connection at all. This has been a long-term fault [possibly the entire time i've used Maui on Lappy, but anyway for as long as i can now remember], but i've never bothered before to troubleshoot it, given i could still get online via WiFi. Back when Lappy still used Mint 17.3 KDE4, it did work. It is not something trivial like a bad cable, as i have tried another, & also a different port on the modem-router. BTW i do know the modem-router's Ethernet itself does work, coz that's how Tower connects to the internet. Oh & also, the relevant Ethernet ports' LEDs on the modem-router do correctly come on & go off when i connect/disconnect the cable from Lappy. When i click the SysTray's Networks' applet, it only shows all my WiFi & VPN connections. It does not even list Ethernet / Wired Connection. Some details: Code: XPS-L501X:~$ ifconfig Code: XPS-L501X:~$ ethtool enp9s0 Any ideas pls? RE: LAPTOP WiFi Good, but NO Ethernet. - kdemeoz - 2nd March 2017 It's solved now, very easily. I simply had to create a new Ethernet connection in the SysTray's Networks' applet & supply the relevant details. Now it works just fine. It probably doesn't really matter much anymore, but i do kinda wonder why Maui didn't do this automatically when i installed it on Lappy. Maybe i only had WiFi active back then during installation? Maybe i didn't also have the Ethernet cable connected then, hence Maui wouldn't have known about it. Hmmm, probably my fault... again. |
