You can use Netrunner instead, it has Debian as base instead of Ubuntu.

I thought of that, but I really like how Plasma has been laid out in Maui.

Does the boot issue effect others or is it my desktop.

I have 2 different laptops, 1 with an SSD and one with HDD. On SSD Maui boots in 3-4 seconds to login screen. On HDD it boots in about 30 secs.

I have a Tower & a Lappy, both with SSDs for the pgms & OS - Maui. I've been too lazy to actually time them, but qualitatively both machines continue to boot up to login screen "fast", certainly i've no reason to complain re 17.03 or the previous Mauis.

There is one significant degradation i've noticed several times on Tower [not yet also on Lappy] with 17.03, at the other end of the cycle, ie, SD or Reboot. NOT always, but so far several times, once the logout completes, instead of then proceeding to the actual SD or Reboot itself, the screen fills up with a looooooooooooooooooooooooooong list of scrolling code / command lines [a common one is something about "running a stop job on 'abc123' ". Sometimes all this guff flashes before my eyes & vanishes again in a few seconds, but other times it holds up my intended outcome by several minutes... & on at least 2 occasions it was sooooooooo long that i grew too impatient & killed it myself ... the subsequent restarts have not seemed to have been upset by those shenanigans. I've no idea what's going on, why it is random not always, & whether it's serious or not... but it never occurred before 17.03.

Well, I tried Netrunner and did not like it and it did not boot any faster than Maui. I went back to Maui and this install improved boot time by a few seconds, I'm not sure why but I will stick with Maui as I love the interface vs. Netrunner.
