Screen jitter and issues - Australis777 - 19th July 2017 I hope I am in the right place for this. Recently I wiped Mint 18.2 KDE and installed Maui 17.06, on MSI FM2-A75MA E35 mobo (latest BIOS) with AMD A4-5300 APU (HD7480D graphics), 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM and 1080p AOC monitor on HDMI. All very nice. BUT I find that when I run Firefox and try to scroll in a page it is very jittery. Then I notice screen redraw issues and it takes a while to close the last tab and close Firefox. Once it is closed and I click on the menu button to bring up the onscreen overlay menu, it doesn't clear for a while when you click on the desktop and I can't get back to the menu button until it does. Until I ran Firefox 54 I did not encounter this. Previously I have had some minor issues with screen glitches with Mint KDE but never under Cinnamon or Xfce or Windows. Disappointing to find such an issue in what seemed to be an excellent and polished distro. Could this be improved with a third party AMD driver? Any thoughts? RE: Screen jitter and issues - leszek - 20th July 2017 Sounds like a driver issue. Maybe it is using the fallback gallium driver. What you could try is installing the hwe xserver-xorg package which will bring in newer drivers.(see another thread on how to install this package in details) RE: Screen jitter and issues - Australis777 - 21st July 2017 (20th July 2017, 0:19)leszek Wrote: Sounds like a driver issue. I decided to get some updates which included kernel 4.10.0-27 and since then everything is running perfectly. I did not try installing the hwe xserver-xorg package you suggested. If there is any advantage in doing that I may look at that at a later stage. RE: Screen jitter and issues - leszek - 21st July 2017 'Never change a running system' If it is good enough for you then don't change it. |
