[solved] Installation failed - RaimundD - 1st August 2017
Hi,
as my plasma desktop suddenly stopped working properly I tried to upgrade to 17.06. I downloaded the iso image but booting from the DVD stops quite early in the boot process.
Is there another way to upgrade?

If you have Maui installed already just activate the backports repo we provide by default.
As for the issue with 17.06 ISO booting. Is there any more details to it? An error message maybe?

Sorry, but there is no error message. I boot from the ISO and I see the screen with the blue, animated wait symbol (how is this called?). And just nothing happens anymore.

When booting up the ISO and seeing the bootsplash animation you can hit escape to see the boot messages.
If that is not showing any error or hanging starting one process/daemon you can always remove the boot parameters quiet and splash from the live systems boot menu.
Usually hitting tab (on bios machines) is needed for editing the boot entries. On UEFI ones you need to press e on the boot entry to go into edit mode and hit ctrl+x to boot from the edit mode.

Hi,
ESC did not work will try the other suggestion.
Could it be that my two gfx card set up causes some problems. I have an build in one and a discrete 1050ti. Is there something special I have to care about? At least the boot screen is coming from the internal one and remains there. The nVidia never shows anything useful.
As the reason for my new installation is a failing desktop from the current installation, is there a plasma debug or boot info available somewhere? Failing means, apps are showing but I do not have any desktop features anymore.

Yeah those hybrid graphic solutions are still a pain to use. You could of course try if it is possible to enable only one graphicscard and see if it solves the issue for you.

OK the only real issue I see here is the unknown OpenGL version that gets reported. Can you press alt+shift+f12 to temporarily disable the compositing effects. As I don't see plasmashell crashing here it should be running but you simply cannot see it because of the issue with the compositing stuff.

alt+shift+f12 did not work either. But I solved it by installing a new version of the NVIDIA proprietary driver. Most probably one of the recent updates of MAUI did not work properly with my old one and broke some parts of the plasmashell.
