DAW for Maui/KDE/Linux?

Just soliciting opinions for what seems to work best for this type of application.

I'm not going to use it (necessarily), but sonny wants to create music.

I also guess I need to know JACK and ALSA?

The best I know is ardour. The newest ardour ships it's own solution for setting up jack. So you don't have to fiddle with it. However it does help if you know a little about Jack.
