I've tried several programs to play a DVD, and nothing has worked so far. I tried to download Dragon Player, but I get a package download failure message. Any idea what program to use?
Try VLC, it should work.

I tried VLC, but I couldn't make it to load and play. I'll fool around with it some more, and see if I can make it to play.

It's quite easy, click on the first option Media -> Open Disc (4th option) - that works for me always... Or just hit Ctrl+D ;-)
If this is a store bought DVD you will need the css drm libraries installed.

From Ubuntu 15.10 onwards, libdvd-pkg is available to ease the installation of libdvdcss.
Install the libdvd-pkg package (no need to add third party repositories) via Synaptic or command line:
Code:
sudo apt-get install libdvd-pkg
Follow libdvd-pkg's instructions to let it download, compile, and install libdvdcss.

Hi AJ. I'd like to say thank you!!  This nuisance had been annoying me for a little while, & though i found some apparent workarounds on the net, i was unsure of their bona fides / trustworthiness. I was going to begin a topic for it here, but then found your golden advice -- problem solved. Great support here.   Smile
