I installed one app - geany - via Synaptic. A new category, Development, was created, but no icon for geany was created. Nor is it listed under the Gs when I choose All Applications.
After I launched it from Konsole, it shows up under Recent Applications, but still appears nowhere else.
I'm running Maui 2.1 in VirtualBox on Windows 8.1.
Can you run kbuildsycoca5 to make sure it rescans all .desktop files and maybe catches that.
Also make sure that if you right click and edit the application menu that geany is listed in the editor and is not set to hidden.
First right click Desktop/unlock widgets
Right click menu icon/Alternatives/ Select...../Application Dashboard/ and press switch.
Click menu and search "geany"
If it shows.... right click/add to favourites......and from favourites
Right click again /add to panel...or desktop (if you are in desktop mode)
Go back to menu and switch to whatever Menu launcher you want

Thanks Pliny.
If I install 100 apps that don't show up do I have to go through this process 100x?
Why didn't it just work the first time?
