Is it safe to use the Kubuntu backports? Since Maui is based on Ubuntu and backports should bring more recent versions of various OS components other than Plasma, I think it should be OK, shouldn't it? I specifically have some KDE Applications in mind, since in Neon/Maui they are still at versions 15.12 and Kubuntu backports have more recent versions of them.
It is not save. Kubuntu does not always follow the same way packaging stuff up.
OK, I understand. But is there another way of getting more recent versions of KDE apps? For example the KDE telepathy in Neon/Maui is still at version 15.12... Or is there a reason for keeping it at such an old version (like no changes in the functionality till now)?
It is simply not packaged in Neon. That might change in the future.
