upgrade from netrunner - fabrice - 19th August 2016

I am using netrunner 14.2, and I am wondering if a upgrade to Maui will be possible soon? or just not possible (I guess)
Thanks

RE: upgrade from netrunner - AJSlye - 19th August 2016

Probably not, Netrunner 14.x was based on KDE SC 4 (Plasma 4).
Maui is based on Plasma 5.
These two DE are technologically very different from one another.

RE: upgrade from netrunner - spacepenguin - 20th August 2016

Any tips for upgrading from Netrunner 17?

RE: upgrade from netrunner - fabrice - 20th August 2016

Maybe it's possible to reinstall only the / directory?
And let user directory /home as before (do not format it). But not sure...

RE: upgrade from netrunner - AJSlye - 20th August 2016

Why not backup your home directory to a USB drive and reinstall.

RE: upgrade from netrunner - fabrice - 20th August 2016

install Maui from scratch? Yes, this is the best way to begin with this new release...
Just to understand I have a question:
I understand that Maui is based on KDE neon: I would like to know if KDE neon is just a graphic layer, or a distro, or both of them?

RE: upgrade from netrunner - spacepenguin - 20th August 2016

Any tips for upgrading from Netrunner 17? New install is no option on two of the PCs I maintain! Home is not the problem but anything else.

The answer to that question is here: https://neon.kde.org/faq

/etc/apt/sources.list is empty (at least for me).
But there are several files in

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/

neon.list

Code:
deb http://archive.neon.kde.org/user xenial main
deb-src http://archive.neon.kde.org/user xenial main

official-packages-repositories.list

Code:
# Do not edit this file manually, use Software Sources instead.

deb http://packages.mauilinux.org xenial main temp
#deb-src http://packages.mauilinux.org xenial main temp

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates main restricted universe multiverse

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ xenial-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ xenial partner

plasmazilla-repository.list

Code:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/plasmazilla/releases/ubuntu xenial main
# deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/plasmazilla/releases/ubuntu xenial main

wine.list

Code:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu xenial main

This is from a brandnew install.
And by the way - home can be a problem Wink - I just reinstalled maui to see if the system freezes, that appeared when i copied a few of my old program settings to the new home-folder - will appear if i don't do so.

Be careful.
