Migration Tips Netrunner -> Maui - kaktux - 20th August 2016 Hi there, as I am currently moving from Netrunner (14) LTS to Maui (1/Aurora) LTS I want to change my experiences - mainly where you can find which settings of your favourite programs - so you can backup + migrate those to your new Linux installation. I am not an expert in doing so - so feel free to add info, tips etc. First and foremost: you should backup your whole /home directory - by doing so you should get almost everything that you want to have. But as there is also a lot of junk hanging around - espacially if you have done so since kde 3 or earlier - you probably don't need/want everything back. So this is basically a collection of where-to-find-settings(configuration files etc) of programms. (.xy folders are hidden files - theres an option to show these in dolphin) most are quite easy to find - but some are rather hidden. Internet Applications: Firefox: .mozilla/firefox/profilename (by default some weird name) +profiles.ini for information about the location of your profile. I prefer to backup mozilla profiles (browser+mail) in an extra folder in my home directory. This can be done by starting with firefox -P and creating a profile + selecting name and folder in the dialog. To migrate you can simply create the profiles new - and copy your old backups into the folder. Thunderbird .thunderbird/profilename similar to firefox. Start with thunderbird -P Chromium: .config/chromium/ owncloud client /.local/share/data/ownCloud/ |
