hi there,

upon the release of the next digital assistent by one of the major internet-related companies i did a quick search and found a quite promising open-source alternative which already seems to work together with the kde community (plasmoid): mycroft (ai).
They already seem to have some partnerships with bigger companies (car industry) - so it does not like a project that will disappear because of lack of interest/contributions etc. (which is always one of the first things i look at as there are quite a lot one man shows out there)

So - besides me beeing interested in tinkering around (stuff like a smart mirror, microphones around the house for smart home comes into mind) - this seems to be like an idea for improving maui: making mycroft easily available for those who are looking for an easy way to try this out. I dont know if this is possible - but if package/plasmoid would be available for maui: that'll be great.
I have been checking out some other Kde distro's lately (seems to have become a hobby Blush), and Kaos and Chekra both come with QupZilla browser. It's has some nice built in features and because it is written in Qt it fit's in to Kde much better than Chromium (it uses the Chromium web engine).

It is no longer updated in the Ubuntu repositories or the QupZilla ppa.I was wondering if it would be possible for the developers to include it in the Maui repositories?

This is assuming that you all consider to be a safe browser to use. Any thoughts on that?

Being mostly a Win7 user I think that Maui Linux is the most attractive version of Linux I have experimented with. I have run various distros from flash drives and have installed Mint KDE and Cinnamon. I am on the verge of replacing Mint KDE with Maui 17.06 and will install it on a 2nd PC currently in progress (older hardware) and have successfully run it from a flash drive on that PC.

So far I have just one gripe and that is with the software manager. I don't find Synaptic Program Manager so user friendly (interface especially). I was hoping that some progress had been made with finding a more graphically informative and intuitive software manager such as you find in Mint and KDE Discover. In March 22 it was stated that you are investigating alternatives. I hope there is success with this in the next update. It would be fitting in such a polished distro.

Hi,

I've been running Maui for a week now, and it has been quite an enjoyable experience so far. Most of the software I needed comes preinstalled (Krita, GIMP), so that's why it was very easy for me to just jump right in.

I did encounter a problem as the installer doesn't mark the partition as active, so I've just reinstalled it in UEFI (or the alternative was a BIOS update) and that solved it.

First thing I though did was to uninstall Skype, while I've then installed Chromium, Blender (I'm curious as to why this isn't a default, as it is a great complementary software to Krita, GIMP and Kdenlive) and Darkroom (a better app for working with RAW images).

The defaults are pretty much ok, but I'm curious as to why Audacious is delivered, and not Clementine (still, this is not a problem).

All in all, Maui has quickly become my favourite distro, as for me (Graphics & 3D) it was a quick install and I could jump straight to work.

Great job, everyone!
I use my computer for business work so I would rather not have any games. No need for for Steam either. Even all the graphics programs are not needed and just clutter up my system. So I would like to request/suggest a Maui Core version. Of course I would want to keep any program that make the system work better. So most of the system tools and utilities would remain the same. But I think a more stripped down program set could fill a need. Just keep all the core programs that most people would use. I'm think programs like Firefox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice, Gwenview, Okular, Scaning software, K3b, Media player (VLC) would all need to stay, but many others could be removed.

Dear Admins, Dear Community,

I would like to open a discussion about the integration of KDE neon packages on Plasma desktop.

Firstly, I really appreciate the idea of testing Plasma before releasing, especially after a new main release (5.9)

When I consult the roadmap of KDE we can see that within the first month of its release three bugfix releases will arrive. (as of today the first one)

https://community.kde.org/Schedules/Plasma_5

When I see this roadmap I would decide for myself to start with KDE 5.9.3 since the third bugfix release will be only one month after 5.9 and the fourth bugfix release is relatively late on 21.03

In a previous post you mentioned that you have started testing 5.9. Since 5.9.1 released today, I believe you decided not to deploy 5.9. Did you start testing Plasma 5.9.1 now? Or will you probably deploy Plasma 5.9 after X Weeks of testing, so maybe in one or two weeks although Plasma 5.9.2 will be released on 14.02?

I believe it would help us all when we understand how much time you take for testing and when you decide not to release.

Regarding Plasma 5.8.5 I do not fully understand the decision of blocking it. Firstly it is a bugfix release (the 5th!), I believe a bugfix release can't break much. However, I understand you have a reason for it. Hence I would like to mention this bugfix release probably broke a small number of little things (I heard of desktop icons), but it fixed many another issues. For example the DigiKam update issue what is on 5.8.4 works fully fine on 5.8.5 (on my Kubuntu machine, and even Linux Mint released 5.8.5!)

Could you also please explain us, is there a possibility to decide between Plasma 5.8.X and 5.9. after you released it? KDE 5.8 is a LTS release and will be maintained quite a long time, probably some users want to stay on it.

Probably it is impossible to make every user happy, maybe we find an approach where users can decide alone if they want to upgrade. For myself I know that I would have installed 5.8.5 (because of digikam) and I know I want start with 5.9.3. And I would like to start on the day of its release, not after one month testing when 5.9.4 is already out. Do you think it is possible to add another repository with "always the latest KDE?"

I would really like to see a user-friendly KDE Plasma settings backup tool. It can consume a lot of time to configure all aspects of Plasma. And for various scenarious like upgrades / data losses etc. it could be very helpful to simply restore the settings. Especially for beginners this could be very helpful. And I think maui 2.1 is already on a good way to be usable by Linux beginners.
