So, might there exist some way to have Maui upgrade itself to Bionic Beaver-based Neon?

I just wanted to say thank you for the work you did on the installer in Maui 17.06.

After installing a new video card, my existing Maui 17.03 with updates did not work properly. So I simply decided to update to Kubuntu 18.04. Unfortunatly I got errors during the install and I couldn't install it. Then I found that Maui 17.06 live cd actually recognize my new card out of the box. So I decided to install it on top of my old Maui install instead. But like Kubuntu 18.04, I got some error messages. The difference was that the Maui installer told me the error was that I needed a 500mb boot/efi partition. This was really strange to me since I did not need such a thing when I originally installed Maui 17.03. However, I decided to follow the suggestions given to me by the Maui installer and I created a boot/efi partition formated as fat 32 as Maui suggested. Low and behold it installed just fine. I'm sure Kubuntu 18.04 would have installed with the same changes. But when I wanted to install Kubuntu, I was not informed as to what the problem was. Only Maui told me the issue and how to fix it. Thank you Maui. It was this kind of small attention to detail that made Maui such a great distro. Maui will certainly be missed.

Good morning,

from yesterday I started to have a boring problem on a laptop Acer Aspire ES 15.
Some time ago I installed Maui in dual boot with Windows 10 but, because I'm quite noob, Windows was in UEFI secure boot while Maui in Legacy and every time I choose from bios between Legacy and Uefi.
Yesterday, after a Maui upgrade, Maui stopped to start, so I tried Boot Repair from Live : I read on the Ubuntu forums about the possibility that after Boot Repair also Maui can start in UEFI.
I made all the proceeds in Boot Repair (also the purge of all old kernels and reinstall the last kernel), everything work good (Boot Repair found Maui on sda5, I put Grub on sda1 where there is EFI), I set in the bios shimx64.efi like trusted, but when I start the laptop it open Grub menu where there are only :

- Windows UEFI bootmgfw.efi
- Windows Boot UEFI loader
- EFI/ubuntu/mmx64.efi
- EFI/OEM/Boot/bootmgfw.efi
- Windows Boot Manager (on /dev/sda1)
- System setup

No trace of Maui (and, obviusly, no possibility to start it) !

Now I don't know what to do.
There is a possibility to recovery Maui ?
I'm thinking about to reinstall Maui in UEFI, but in this solution what must I do to make a good work ? The hard disk of this laptop is parted in this way :

- sda1 UEFI fat32
- sda2 empty (no file system)
- sda3 Windows 10 ntfs
- sda5 Maui ext4
- sda6 Acer image of Windows for recovery

and I want, if necessary, to reinstall Maui on sda5.

Thanks in advance for the help !

Dear all!

I have a Win10 Maui 17.06 dual boot installation, but something seems to have changed with Windows as I cannot boot Maui any more:

https://app.box.com/s/oksxkogecd3168fln51go0vlf15z3fdx

It points to the problem that Windows seems to somehow block the disk so that Maui cannot mount it. The thing is that this happens regardless if I shut down Windows completely, use real standby or "just" energy saving mode.

Please let me know what I can do so that the disc is no longer made "unclean" by Win 10.

Thank you very much in advance for helping!

Netrunner (17.10), Firefox 52 only, all hardware detected and functionnal, but unable to install Digikam
Netrunner Rolling, all hardware were detected but unable to print any document. The usual printer HP-1200 is detected, the driver installed, but at all attempts : printer not responding whatever the driver. That reminds me the behaviour I observed with a rpm base distribution like Mageia. That is why I moved some years ago to Netrunner and then Maui.
My main applications were OK.

Kindly look into this issue. I am especially worried about Kdepim and kmail.

Hi,

I went through all GitHub repos Maui admins use to get Maui from Neon and got the list of what needs to be done. most of the stuff is related to:
1. Visual changes, either adapting Plasma shell or panel or backgrounds or changing Ubuntu/Neon to Maui (naming convention change) or icons on desktop or SDDM theming etc. - we don't need these
2. Calamares changes - these are OS installer changes - not needed either
3. GRUB changes - these are changes to the boot - not needed either
4. apt changes - changes to sources files and some apt preferences - most not needed, just apt preferences can be usable, thus attached to this post - files are from /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/ -> 10periodic and 99-no-pipelining (remove the txt extension)
5. fontconfig stuff - this is there only for faster startup of Skype - not needed
6. Finally PACKAGES added to Neon to get Maui are attached to this post as well - some are mandatory (at the top) and some are optional (below mandatory). Of course, all those packages pull in their dependencies, so the final list is much bigger.

If I have forgotten something I would be very grateful, Leszek and co., if you could add the missing pieces
