Hi,
After upgrade to Plasma 5.8.3, systray icons of Dropbox and Pidgin disappeared. I tried restarting them and starting the Dropbox with dbus-launch, but icons haven't reappeared. Any idea?
Is xembedsniproxy running ?
leszek, you're a genius
Indeed xembedsniproxy was not running. When I started it and restarted Dropbox, the icon appeared. However, my question therefore is how should xembedsniproxy be started properly? In which startup script is it in standard Maui installation, so that I can check what went wrong?
OK, I found it in /etc/xdg/autostart and in syslog found that it segfaulted at startup:
Code:
[ 16.410231] xembedsniproxy[1832]: segfault at 2 ip 000000000040bc52 sp 00007ffc47c21bb0 error 4 in xembedsniproxy[400000+13000]
Any idea what could have happened? When I start it manually from terminal after system has started, it runs without a problem...
Not sure why it is crashing for you. Maybe because of one special icon it tries to load into the tray? Is dropbox the only application also in the autostart or is pidgin also started on login? (btw. Pidgin has a plugin for the modern tray so you don't need to rely on the old one)
Good thing is we should ship sni-qt preinstalled.
Yep, it sure is.
Hi guys,
I already tried the latest version of Dropbox from beta - doesn't work, no icon shows up without the xembedsniproxy running. So no luck there. Pidgin is not in startup (and not really important in this case), only Dropbox and a strange thing is that it hasn't stopped working with the 5.8.3 upgrade, but much later. No idea really what changed, but I have the same updates installed on my work laptop and there it doesn't crash (even with the same Dropbox version in the startup). I will try to investigate further...
OK, I can see that on my work laptop I have dropbox version 14.4.19, while on my home laptop the version is 15.4.22 (no idea how it got there, since when I downloaded from official Dropbox client site it gave me 14.4.19). I will try to downgrade on my home PC and see how it goes.
