When I create a new desktop icon via right clicking 'Create New' -> 'Link to Application...' I do indeed get a desktop icon created, but it appends a '.desktop' extension to the end. How do I prevent that from showing? Also, if I right click on an existing desktop icon then select 'Properties' and make some changes, when I click 'OK' it says the icon already exists and prompts me to rename it.

Do you have folder view enabled...........Right click....you know the rest..
when set, you just start your menu>[find your application] ...right click ............add to desktop Seems too simple ....

Thanks, I was using that as a workaround already. The original bug still remains, however.
