Slow to load desktop from login screen

I have a Dell XPS 15 9550 with a very fast NVMe SSD and I used to get to the desktop from the login screen in just a couple seconds. After installing updates from the Maui and Ubuntu backports (X Server 1.19 I think was the only change from Ubuntu) it takes much longer - around 30 to 60 seconds. What's the best way to determine what is causing this delay?

First check the threads about boot delays here in the forum. (keyword: virtualbox-guest-x11)
So the problem is not the login screen appearing with a delay but the login process itself?

That would be interesting. The log file for this is stored in ~/.xsession-errors. Maybe it can help diagnosing the issue.

It's from the login screen to the desktop, not getting into the login screen itself. I'll take a look at that file and see if anything stands out.

I have the same problem on Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro after last distro upgrade to Maui 17.03 using PPA a described here:
https://mauilinux.org/upgrading-maui-2-x-maui-17-03/
My Yoga has a 1.8" SSD by Samsung and previously the whole start-up process from pressing the button to using the desktop was very fast. Now it boots to login screen in no time but it takes significantly longer from typing the user password in the login screen to being able to use the desktop.

Yoga 2 Pro is one of the high DPI laptops with on-screen resolution 3200x1800 px and I'm using 1.5 scaling in System settings. From the system setting actually I lost the Information About This System menu entry. Is says The shared library was not found.

I suspect I have some issues with the legacy desktop arrangement (e.g. out-of-date setting for widgets). How can I revert to Maui 17.03 default desktop?

I've created a brand new dummy user just to test it and rebooted. It loads from the logging screen equally long as my own account.

Also I cannot see this user in the User Manager in the System Settings.

OK thanks for the further information. I guess it might be a general plasma problem maybe.
are you experiencing similiar delays on other distros aswell from the login screen to the desktop?

Some time ego I was testing Linux Mint 18.2, both with Cinnamon and with KDE (Plasma 5.8) and the login was faster from the LiveUSB stick than my regular login of the Maui installed on the computer's SSD. GRUB and boot was faster from SSD though.

Here's my ~/.xsession-errors in case it helps. I haven't tried other distros lately so I can't say if this is a general Plasma issue.

Thanks for attaching the xsession-errors files.
@atowler:
First thing I see in your specific log is that you still have ksuperkey installed. This is no longer necessary. So removing it will not try starting it again in autostart (which might bring several msec faster startup)

In general I see in both xsession-errors file that some kwin desktop files cannot be loaded.
It seems to be a problem with the filenames or renaming done upstream somehow.
You can link those two files for it to find.
Code:
cd /usr/share/kservicetypes5/
sudo ln -s kwinscript.desktop kwin-script.desktop
sudo ln -s kwineffect.desktop kwin-effect.desktop

The rest is still under investigation.
