As workaround for now just make solar known to update-alternatives by executing in a terminal
After that the Boot Splash configuration should work setting solar.Code:sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/share/plymouth/themes/default.plymouth default.plymouth /usr/share/plymouth/themes/solar/solar.plymouth 100
Netrunner did not show this problem. So this must be specific to Maui.
