Unable to Logout

I am able to Hibernate.  When I try to Logout, the system goes blank for a second and then back to the Desktop.

Also, at times Shutdown takes several minutes.

Any ideas what might be happening?

That sounds strange. The logout thingy sounds like something is blocking the logout.
Did you close all open applications before logout ?
Is there anything in the ~/.xsession-errors log file regarding your logout and issues ?

Shutdown taking several minutes might also indicate a process blocking the shutdown.
Though sometimes writing back stuff from swap or cache to the disk (speed variating if SSD or HDD) might take some minutes depending on how much it has to write to the disk.

Change the login screen, choose the first on the left.

I checked .xsessions and it is a huge file, way to big to post or use Pastebin.  I really have no clue what I'm looking for in that file.

I do use PIA VPN which I disconnect before shutting down.  It is hit or miss whether shutdown is fast or not.

Can you just search for errors in that file. Best from bottom to top as the last lines are the newer ones in .xsession-errors file. (Only check the last 100 lines that should be enough)

Still the same log basically. I don't see any problem there.
