I've been surprised for a few weeks that my Maui has not upgraded to P5.8.4, as i saw it come through for KDE Neon several(?) weeks ago.

I had thought, via a couple of older topics/threads...
  - https://mauilinux.org/updating-maui-2-maui-backports/
...that my repository source list was correct, but now i need to re-re-check with Devs.

As far as i can understand, this all looks correct:

...but this looks weird:

Yet even if i close Update Manager, & edit "official-package-repositories.list" as root, & delete the wrong-looking "[arch=amd64]" strings, save it, then reload Update Manager, still no new Plasma is offered.

Advice please?

Everything is alright with your sources.list no need to edit it.
The new update is not out yet for our repos.

I do not understand the policy that maui 2 lead. Maui 2 has a base Ubuntu 16.04, Neon and Mint update program.
Neon has a user version plasma 5.8.5 and LTS version plasma 5.8.4. Maui has a plasma 5.8.2
and sometimes there is an update. Does that mean that the plasma 5.8.2 stable than plasma 5.8.4 LTS.

It simply means we are still testing 5.8.4 and 5.8.5 before we release it to our users via backports repo.

If users "must have" the latest Plasma, and since Maui is Kubuntu based, you can add the Kubuntu backports (staging and landing) via ppa for the latest Plasma. If, however, you do this the Maui team isn't responsible if your system "breaks" since the Plasma versions are not yet supported by Maui developers.

No please don't add kubuntu backports ppa. This will break stuff in the future for sure. We don't recommend adding this.

That is why I included the warning. I do such for testing in a virtual machine but never my desktop os.

Indeed, however Maui is not Kubuntu based.
Maui is based on project Neon, which is a custom built and updated Qt5, KF5, Plasma 5 and a few base KDE Applications (dolphin, kate. etc.) stack, sitting on top of an LTS Ubuntu base.
