gparted failed - how to recover partition?

I deleted one partition and wanted to expand the neighbour partition with gparted (PartedMagic 2017 DVD) to occupy that space. Unfortunately there was an error so that now the partition is expanded, but still has unallocated space in it. The file system cannot be read, but I am very sure that no data was lost as this failed operation lastet only a second. No blocks were copied.

What to do in this case? Which tool would be the right one? Testdisk?

Gparted offers an option to search for lost file system (I guess it means running gpart), but that did not bring any results.

I would try out testdisk.
What does Gparted show you ? I guess unknown partition for the failed expanded partition ?

Testdisk both finds the deleted partition (sda9) as well as the partition I wanted to expand (sda10). They are shown in green and the detected size seems very reasonable for what I had before my expand operation in gparted, but I am not sure what to do with it. I do not have the option "write". It is not easy to provide a screenshot as somehow the PartitionMagic does not accept even my USB stick.

I had another idea: I made a backup the same day of my maui partition (sda13) with fsarchiver. AND I included the partition table "save PBR". So couldn't I simply restore the PBR from this backup or is the file partition table still a separate thing? Or is PBR not sufficient for the task?

In this case I would like to know an easy (maybe GUI) way to backup partition tables and what else is needed for such cases.
