Hi, what is your setup in KDE wallpaper settings ?
Set the "wallpaper type" to Slideshow, "change every" to ~10s and add $HOME/Pictures/variety-wallpaper as a folder.
It should work then (this 10s is just for KDE to notice the change, you still adjust all the settings in variety preferences).
