I have a Radeon 7770. For a while, everything had been working fine. Then I installed a bunch of updates. Now I have really poor performance in a Win7 virtualbox console. I think it's graphics related. Everything performs really well if I RDP into the box instead of using the console.
And Mesa was among the updates. There's no option for changing video drivers in the Hardware Drivers section of System Settings.

Thanks

Hi. Using Maui 64-bit, fully updated. I purchased an HP Deskjet 2622 at WalMart at Black Friday sale. Yes, I'm insane <grin>.

I have the printer set up, but the hplip database doesn't support this model. I notice that Maui has an older hplip library. Checking HP's website, I see newer versions of hplip support this printer.

I read that you can download a .run file from their website. I clicked on the link, but it will only download a .bin file. Arrgghhh!!!!

Anyone have any idea how I can either a) update hplip (updating from synaptic only brings you to the older version), or, alternately, b) finding a .ppd file for this printer?

Thanks.

Bare with me, I have only used Linux for about two days (chose MAUI as my first distro) and only got very limited knowledge of how to work with an OS.

I got an Asus Zenbook UX305CA and is used to often use the large touchpad with two hands, one for click and one for movement/scrolling. The problem I have is that when I do this my cursor sometimes suddenly jumps to the edge of the screen when clicking, most often to the lower left corner.

Is there a work-around or a fix for this?

Can somebody please tell me what is going on?
Thank you very much!

I use a the sound card ASUS XONAR DGX. Until today I only used analog audio via the front connection of my computer. Now I bought the sound bar SAMSUNG HW-J355. How do I have to change the settings for using the TOSLINK optical connection to the sound bar so that it will work?
Kind regards,

Okay I found the right settings by try and error. If I want to use the sound bar I have to change in Phono Audio / Audio Hardware Setup / Soundcard "CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio] the profile from "Analog Stereo Duplex" into "Digital Stereo [ICE958] Output. If I want to listen by my headphone I have to change it back to "Analog Stereo Duplex".
To make these changes I always have to go into the system settings. Is there an easier way for such a change? Perhaps by a widget?
Kind regards,
My Dad uses Win10, & quite likes it. He has a few decades of MS-usage behind him, & nil experience of Linux.
Unlike me [who works almost 100% digitally; hardly ever printing or scanning anything], Dad is very reliant on his two printers & 1 scanner... he uses them a lot, & i recognise that Maui / Linux would not be viable for him unless i can ensure he would continue to have untroubled usage on-demand of these devices.
We have downloaded Maui 17.03, & i set it up in a VM for him, so that he can play with it & begin to get a feel for what Linux "is", what Maui looks like, & whether he finds it appealing & useful or not... from a software perspective. We have not yet burnt the ISO to dvd for him to boot in Live mode, to test his hardware [apart from limited time so far, the main reason is pragmatic; i live ~120 km away from him, & typically support his computer needs via TeamViewer, but that's not viable for booting into BIOS to inspect/edit the boot sequence, & as Dad has no knowledge of even the concept let alone practice of booting from a LiveDVD, I'm not sure yet if i would be able to explain to him what to do when i can't watch the screen to see what he sees & does].

I have done an initial cursory search online for any Linux drivers for one of his devices, but i need to spend more time properly investigating. It occurred to me however to first ask here... i realise it's a long-shot, but for instance if it transpired that someone here happened to have any of the same hardware, & had already discovered [a] how to use them in Maui, or alternatively (b] that they definitely won't work in Maui, then that'd save me some time.
Hi

I am beginning to suspect this is possibly a problem with the Brother drivers, not Maui [given the identical problem plagued me before Maui in Mint 17/17.1/17.2/17.3 KDE4], but i thought i'd ask here before i just give up.

Per the subject line, today after performing the Brother setup [see below] in my Tower's Maui 17.03, my MFC-7220 prints just fine, but the Scanner fails [also see below].

Here's what i did [sort of a compendium of advice on the Brother site, + a couple of other sites]:

Installed the necessary 32bit libraries:

Code:

kdemeoz@GA-Z97-HD3:~/Downloads/linux-brprinter-installer-2.1.1-1$ sudo apt install ia32-libs
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package ia32-libs is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
lib32ncurses5 lib32z1
E: Package 'ia32-libs' has no installation candidate

kdemeoz@GA-Z97-HD3:~/Downloads/linux-brprinter-installer-2.1.1-1$ sudo apt install lib32ncurses5 lib32z1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following additional packages will be installed:
lib32tinfo5
The following NEW packages will be installed
lib32ncurses5 lib32tinfo5 lib32z1
0 to upgrade, 3 to newly install, 0 to remove and 1 not to upgrade.
Need to get 229 kB of archives.
After this operation, 905 kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]
Following this, even without needing a reboot, the Test Print & a "real" print of an actual document of mine, worked just fine. So then i turned my attention to the Scanner...

1. As advised in Brother's instructions, add the following lines to “/lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane-rules”:
a)Put them at the end of the list of vendors, just before the line that says "# The following rule will disable":
i. # Brother scanners
ii. ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"
2. Copy /usr/lib64/sane to /usr/lib/ [ie, final directory in destination = /usr/lib/sane]
3. Add myself to the scanner user group.
4. Install Simple Scan, eg, with Synaptic.
5. Reboot (to restart daemons)
6. Run Simple Scan from the Graphics menu to test the scanner. --> Oh %#@!~^ it. It does not work, just like in Mint before Maui.

Following this, even without needing a reboot, the Test Print & a "real" print of an actual document of mine, worked just fine. So then i turned my attention to the Scanner...

1. As advised in Brother's instructions, add the following lines to “/lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane-rules”:
a)Put them at the end of the list of vendors, just before the line that says "# The following rule will disable":
i. # Brother scanners
ii. ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"

I'm coming from KDE Neon 5.8.6, and with the amd64.iso the install runs smooth and fast and doesn't lag at bootup or shutdown. Maui, although the Install went fine, it boots way too slow finding and fixing errors in my quad core AMD CPU:ID, and shut down is the same, very slow and lags.

I feel this is due to the install not being specific to the AMD x64 Chip that KDE Neon offers and does well.

I may be talking out of my ass, but my AMD FX990 Chipset will not even boot a liveCD on the new Manjaro, and Arch based distros.

Thanks for hearing out a n00b.

I am looking for a full size bluetooth mouse that is ergonomically ok and works well with Maui. If Bluetooth is not a good option I would also accept a "conventional" wireless mouse.

If anybody has solid good experience I would be very happy to read a hint. I come from Germany, so it should be possible to order it via Amazon Germany.

Thank you very much in advance!
